Vernon H. Vilmont, 70, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, at Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church. A visitation will occur from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 28, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
Vernon was born October 28, 1945 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Floyd and Catherine (Anglese) Vilmont. He was a 1964 graduate of St. Mary's High School. He was united in marriage to Sandra Taylor on January 17, 1970 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clinton.
Vernon was a longtime member of Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church and the former St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clinton. Vernon worked for many years at General Electric, in Morrison, Illinois and along with his wife owned and operated Kilroys Tavern in Clinton for ten years.
Vernon enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool and golfing. His main priority was always his family, whom he loved very much, especially his grandchildren.
Vernon is survived by his wife Sandy Vilmont of Clinton, IA; one daughter - Lynn Hand of Rock Island, IL; one son - Patrick (Danika) Vilmont of Waukee, IA; one grandson - Ryan Kooi of Clinton, IA; two grand-daughters - Alyssa Kooi at home, Clare Vilmont at home; one brother - Charles (Sue) Vilmont of Clinton, IA; with many nieces, nephews, cousins and the many friends he has met throughout his life.
Preceding Vernon in death were his parents, two brothers and one sister.
