Condolences

Condolence From: Sandra Alexander Chapman
Condolence: I just learned of Miss McGonegle's passing this evening. A picture of Longfellow School was posted on facebook today. I commented that Miss McGonegle was my all-time very favorite teacher. I have often thought of her and wondered where she was so I could tell her how much she meant to me. Reading was difficult for me in first grade and I was at the very bottom of the class. She taught me to read and I wish I could have let her know that I grew up to become a reading teacher myself because of her. She cared so much for each of her students. She had a hug for each of us at the end of every day.

Condolence: I am sorry for your loss. Miss McGonegle was my second grade teacher at Longfellow School in 1956-7.
I will always remember her kind demeanor and competency in and out of the classroom. I had a lazy eye problem, and she helped in making sure I got tested, which resulted my getting much needed eyeglasses. I also remember she arranged a field trip to Bolger's Hollow to search for fossils and learn about nature. That was so much fun and educational too. I still have my second grade report card--all A's and B's and S's in citizenship!. She was the first teacher who showed me that school and learning could be fun. I became a teacher myself, teaching every grade K-12 in my 34 year career, but mainly middle school language arts and 5th grade. I also married a fellow English teacher named Martha, and we are enjoying our seventh year of retirement. Once again, I'm sorry for your loss, and wish you easy days ahead.

Condolence: Miss McGonegle was my 2nd grade teacher at Longfellow School. I remember her wonderful smile and how we teased her about being about the same size of some of the boys because she was so short. My memory is that she always had great control of her students. She also would encourage us often especially with our reading. She was a kind soul, She is missed by many. Good memories.
