Obituary for Jesse E. McGilvrey

Jesse Ernest McGilvrey, 80, of Camanche, Iowa passed away peacefully at the Alverno on Friday, January 6, 2017. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel. Burial will take place immediately following the funeral service at Springdale Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Jesse was born September 19, 1935 in Albia, Iowa, the son of George and Vera (Stele) McGilvrey. Jesse served his Country in the U.S. Army, entering the service at the end of the Korean war. Jesse was united in marriage to Judith "Judy" Jordan on September 9, 1962 at the First United Methodist Church in Clinton.
Jesse was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was also a member of AMVETS Post 28. He retired from Alcoa after 35 years of service. Following retirement, he worked at Lemke Funeral Homes for several years.
Although Jesse didn't take many trips, he often spoke of a fishing trip, late in life, that he took with good friends to Canada - a trip he thoroughly enjoyed. He also enjoyed spending time woodworking. Above all Jesse was a loyal and faithful husband and treasured the time he had with his grandchildren, he was a true family man and will be greatly missed.
Jesse is survived by his wife Judy of Bettendorf, IA; one daughter – Jaye McGilvrey of Davenport, IA; one son –Scott (Susan) McGilvrey of Tampa, FL; three granddaughters – Margaret Stone, Elise McGilvrey and Erin McGilvrey; one grandson – Samuel Aiden Bishop; one brother – Loren (Suzanne) McGilvrey of Denver, CO and one brother in-law – Jack (Joan) Jordan of Nashville, TN; with several nieces, nephews, cousins and the many friends he met throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters.
