William “Bill” Arnold Spencer, 87, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savannah, Illinois on Friday, February 8, 2019. Private family services will take place with burial at Oakland Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
William was born September 3, 1931 in Windham, Ohio the son of Floyd and Martha (Thompson) Spencer. Following High School, William enlisted in the United States Air Force, a decorated Staff Sergeant serving two tours of duty during the Korean War.
William was united in marriage to Phyllis Rininger on July 16, 1954 in Braceville, Ohio. William was a Plant Superintendent for Carlon, Inc. William ended his career working as a Custodian for Clinton High School.
While in Ohio, he was a member of the Moose Lodge. Bill enjoyed golfing, wood carving and oil painting. He was an avid fan of John Wayne movies. Above all, he loved his family very much and will be greatly missed.
William is survived by his wife Phyllis of Clinton, daughter – Dr. Terri Spencer of Clinton; sons – Steve (Robin) Spencer of West Des Moines, IA and Mark (Judy) Spencer of Savage, MD; three grandchildren – Christopher (Melissa) Spencer of Des Moines, IA, Kristina (Lars) Erickson of Columbia, MD and Heather (Martin) Moore of Crofton, MD; four great-grandchildren – Elise, George, Will and Anja; one brother – David Spencer of Niles, OH; one sister – Karen (Tony) Reppy of Niles, OH with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding William in death were his parents, two granddaughters – Stephanie and Sarah and one brother – George.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Bill’s name to the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at the Mayo Clinic, Department of Development, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN. 55905.
