Obituary for William A. "Bill" Soesbe

William A. "Bill" Soesbe passed away peacefully Sunday, August 30th at Resthave Care and Rehabilitation, Morrison. In accordance with Bill's wishes no service will be held. William Arthur Soesbe was born June 6, 1942 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Philip and Barbara (Siegel) Soesbe. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Clinton in 1961 and married Diane Sullivan on October 16, 1962 at St. Irenaeus Church in Clinton. He graduated from Iowa Barber College and worked with his brother Jack at Soesbe's Barber Shop before being drafted into the US Army. Bill served his country honorably in Vietnam from 1967-1969, transporting munitions and supplies along the Ho Chi Min Trail and building barracks. Bill was employed as a Millwright at the former Clinton Corn Processing and retired from Alcoa in 2005.

Bill enjoyed spending time tinkering at his cabin on the Wapsipinicon River, playing cards, entering sweepstakes, writing letters, and watching his shows on PBS.

Bill is survived by his former spouse Diane (Sullivan) Soesbe, mother of his five children, Nathan (Courtney) Soesbe of Naperville, IL, Jennifer Soesbe (Kevin) of Galena, IL, Mindy (Marty) Splane of Pittsburgh, PA, Leah (Hugo) Cruz of Gilbert, AZ and Frank J. (Niki) Soesbe of Clinton, 16 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers James A. Soesbe, Robert J. ‘Bob’ Soesbe, John P. 'Jack' Soesbe, his sister, Mary Jo (Francis) Daly, his grandson Trey Soesbe and his granddaughter Meryl Soesbe.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be planned for a later date.
