Obituary for Wesley Petersen

Wesley George Petersen, 88, of Davenport, Iowa passed away peacefully at Bickford Cottage - Assisted Living in Davenport, Iowa on September 10, 2014. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive - west side of Clinton Lawn Cemetery). A visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Wesley was born February 21, 1926 in Preston, Iowa the son of Ervin and Dorothy (Huebner) Petersen. He was a 1940 graduate of the Clinton County Public School. Shortly after he joined the United States Navy. Wesley served aboard the U.S.S. Yuma, ATF94, during WWII where he was engaged in active combat in the South Pacific.
On May 19, 1951 he was united in marriage to Laverne Bahnsen in Clinton, Iowa. They were married for 61 years until her passing in 2012.
Wesley worked at DuPont's, in Clinton, were he retired after many years.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2153, Moline, Illinois, and a past member of The Moose, The AMVETS and The Eagles Club in Clinton, Iowa.
Wesley loved going out dancing with his wife and enjoyed their fishing trips together up North. He also enjoyed playing with his dogs. Wesley loved to bowl but his true passion was following the St. Louis Cardinals. After Laverne's passing, he enjoyed playing Bingo and socializing at the Bickford Cottage.
The family would like to thank the wonderful, kind and loving staff at Bickford Assisted Living and Genesis Hospice Nurses.
Wesley is survived by one sister - Carol Fuller of Sun City, AZ.; one sister in-law Elaine Louden of Moline, Il.; several nieces and nephews and special niece - Patty (Bob) Grimm of Rock Island, Illinois who took care of Wesley following his wife's passing.
Preceding Wesley in death were his parents, his wife- Laverne, two sisters - Burneil Christopherson and Elaine Goodman and one brother - Larry Petersen.
Memorials made will be directed to the wishes of the family.
