Obituary for Wayne Burmeister

Wayne Louis Burmeister, 79, of Miles, Iowa passed away peacefully at Mercy Living Center North facility on January 29, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014 at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 manufacturing drive - just west of Clinton Lawn Cemetery). A visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service with burial at a later date at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Wayne was born August 5, 1934 in DeWitt, Iowa the son of August and Lucille (Rock) Burmeister. Wayne was united in marriage to Dorothy Olson on May 10, 1959 in Moline, Illinois; they were together in marriage for nearly fifty five years.
Wayne was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Preston, Iowa. Wayne was also a member of the Lions Club and a long time member of the Izaak Walton League. He accumulated twenty years of service as a fireman for Miles with seven of those years as the Miles Fire Chief.

Wayne started butchering at Matthiesen's in DeWitt when he was 17 years old. In 1972 he bought the Miles Locker Service and operated it for 31 years, starting a sausage making operation in 1984. He sold his business and retired in 2003. He then went to work at the Charlotte Locker until 2013.
Wayne loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. He loved his family very much and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Wayne is survived by his wife Dorothy of Miles, IA.; two daughters - Nancy (Tony) Cram of Teeds Grove, IA., Judy (Lee) Bughman of Moline, IL.; three grandsons - Darrell, Cory and Bradley; two great-granddaughters - Makyla and Maleah Cram; one sister - Alice (Dick) Carber of Low Moor, IA.; four brothers - Don (Judy) Burmeister of DeWitt, IA., Kenny (Wilma) Burmeister of Clinton, IA., Gary (Marilyn) Burmeister of Elvira, IA., Ed (Ann) Burmeister of Clinton, IA; with many nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
Preceding Wayne in death were his parents and three brothers.
