Walter "Wally" Claussen, 83 of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 25th, 2013, after losing his battle with Mesothelioma for many weeks while being lovingly cared for by his daughter Jolene, assisted by his granddaughter Stephanie and special friend of the family Jenny Schroeder. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29th at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (just west of Clinton Lawn Cemetery). A visitation will occur from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28th, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Walter "Wally" Claussen was born June 6th, 1930 to Martin and Anna (Rasmusen) Claussen in Omaha, Nebraska. Wally married Yvonne 'Bonnie' Quick on July 11th, 1959 in Davenport, Iowa. Bonnie was the love of his life whom he cherished in life and after.
Walter was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Walter honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1957 during the Korean War.
Upon his return from service, Wally worked for the Lock Company and was also a plumber and painter for 40+ years until his retirement.
Wally's love for his family was immeasurable. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Many special moments were spent with granddaughter Jeni ,great granddaughter Caitlyn and great grandson Gage. Kylee and Erin also greatly enjoyed their time with grandpa, especially his good-bye blow kisses that they will treasure forever. Holidays with the family were very special to him. He enjoyed family vacations in Estes Park, Colorado. He also enjoyed gardening and rock collecting.
He is survived by one daughter - Jolene (Donald) Peek of Gladstone, Il.; one son- Dale (Betsy) Claussen of Clinton, IA.; four granddaughters - Jennifer (Michael) Harlock of Clinton, IA., Stephanie Sanders of Clinton, IA., Kylee and Erin Claussen of Clinton, IA.; six great grand children - Caitlyn and Gage Claussen, Dominic Hatfield, Hannah Hatfield, Gracie Liston, Emma Sanders and awaiting the arrival of another great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife "Bonnie", his parents, grandparents, one brother and four sisters.
