Obituary for Viva Bower

Viva Carole Bower, 80, of Clinton, Iowa passed away, with her family at her side, at Mercy Living Center South on Friday, January 2, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 manufacturing drive - just west of Clinton Lawn Cemetery). A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Following the funeral service cremation rites will be accorded with burial at a later date at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Viva was born February 25, 1934 in Osceola, Arkansas the daughter of James and Della (Story) Whitehouse. She married Thomas Green on October 14, 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri, he passed in 1966. She later married Pearl "Shorty" Engle, he passed in 1974. She then married Charles Bower on February 14, 1975, he passed in 1989.
For over 30 years Viva worked as a Nurse's Aide for many health care facilities including, Sarah Harding, Mercy Hospital, Harbor Crest and others. She was very active in her Church, regardless of where she lived. From the time she was a teenager she was a member of the Salvation Army. She was a former Sunbeam leader in Clinton; all of the young people there grew up calling her "grandma". Viva enjoyed socializing with her friends, loved playing Bingo and was a big fan of Country music. Above all, she loved her family very much and was not shy about telling friends how many kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids she had.
Viva is survived by four sons - Thomas (Betsy Miller) Green of Clinton, IA., Timothy (Donna) Green of Fulton, IL., John Green and Robert Green both of LeGrand, IA.; three daughters - Laura (Daniel) Feller and Jamie David both of Camanche, IA., Lavina (Scott Reed) Engle-Reed of Clinton, IA; one step-son - Jim Bower of Nashville, TN.; one sister Kathy Gale of Waterloo, IL. with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great- great-grandchild.
Preceding Viva in death were her parents, her husbands, one son - Steve Green, one grandson, one brother and three sisters
