Viola J. Long, 89, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at Mercy Medical Center - North on Friday, January 1, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). A visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
Viola was born February 12, 1926 in Fenton, Illinois, the daughter of Carl and Elsie (Johnson) Rosenow. She was a graduate of Clinton High School. Viola was united in marriage to Francis "Frank" E. Long on May 2, 1943 in Kahoka, Missouri.
Viola was a past member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton. She was a homemaker whose main priority was taking care of her family. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially when she spent time at the family cabin in Minnesota. She loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren.
Viola is survived by three daughters - Virginia Mann of Clinton, IA, Janette (Don) Fackler of Greenville, IN, Karen (Rick) Petersen of Fulton, IL; two sons Robert (Sue) Long of Clinton, IA, Jerry (Laura) Long of Los Angeles, CA; nine grandchildren - Dr. Ann Mann of Albuquerque, NM, Holly (Jason) Willwerth of Myrtle Beach, SC, Kristy Mann of Naperville, IL, Donna Mann of Clinton, IA, Lindsey Long of New York City, NY, Kelsey Long of Los Angeles, CA, Nathan (Dr. Nicole) Petersen of Christiansburg, VA, Michael (Cheyenne Foreman) Petersen of Fulton, IL, Justin Petersen of Fulton, Il; six great grandchildren; one brother- Jim (Rosemary) Johnson of Dixon, IL; with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Francis C. Long and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Clinton Humane Society in Viola's name.
