Obituary for Sister Mary Jeanine Bradford, OSF

Sister Mary Jeanine Bradford, OSF, 77, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away Friday, November 4, 2011, at The Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton.
Funeral service will be Monday, November 7, at 9:30 a.m. at The Canticle, Clinton. Burial will take place in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be Sunday, November 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Canticle, with Scripture Service at 6:30 p.m. Pallbearers include her relatives, friends and members of the Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting with the arrangements.
Sister Mary Bradford was born on August 30, 1934, in Fonda, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Cleo Ellen (Nixon) Bradford. She graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Fonda. She received an Associate of Arts degree from Mount St. Clare College, Clinton; a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Barry College, Miami, Fla.; a Master's degree in religious education from Seattle University, Seattle, Wash.
Sister Mary Bradford joined the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton, on September 8, 1954, and professed her final vows on August 12, 1960.
Sister Mary Bradford served as an elementary teacher at St. Francis de Paula School in Chicago, Ill., and at St. Margaret School in Chino, Calif. She was among the first group of Clinton Franciscans to begin teaching at Mary, Star of the Sea School, Freeport, Grand Bahama, Grand Bahama Islands, where she served for 21 years. She served in religious education and parish ministry at St. Catherine Parish, Riverside; Holy Family Parish, Hesperia; St. Anthony Parish and Holy Rosary Parish, San Bernardino; and St. Anthony Parish, San Jacinto, all in California; at St. Augustine Parish, Peoria, Ariz.; St. Patrick Parish, Clear Lake, Iowa; and St. Joachim & St. Anne Parish, Sun City, Ariz. She also served in the Diocese of Chuluchanas, Peru.
Sister Mary Bradford retired in 2008 in Peoria, Ariz., and moved to The Canticle in July 2010. She then moved to The Alverno in October 2010.
Survivors include two brothers, Francis (Virginia) of Richland Center, Wis., James, her twin, (Mary Ellen) of Guthrie Center, Iowa; four sisters, Eileen of Carroll, Iowa, Rita Larson of Lacona, Iowa, Virginia (Neil) Fitzmorris of Pacific Palisades, Calif., and Madonna Hosch of Elkader, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, John and Edward.
