Obituary for Sister Mary Klein

Sister Mary of the Angels Klein OSF, 97, of Clinton passed away Saturday, April 23rd, 2011 at The Alverno Health Care Facility.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday April 27th, 2011, at The Canticle, with Msgr. Francis Henricksen presiding. Burial will take place in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery, Clinton, Iowa.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 26th, 2011, at the Canticle, with Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Scripture Service at 6:30 p.m.
Pallbearers include her relatives, friends, and members of the Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton, Iowa.
Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting with the arrangements.
Sister Mary of the Angels Klein was born on July 5th, 1913 in Rensselaer, Indiana, the daughter of William and Mary Elizabeth (McAleer) Klein. She attended grade schools at both St. Elizabeth Academy, St. Louis, MO and St. Ann, Vail, IA, graduating from St. Ann High School, Vail, IA. Sister Mary Klein received an AA from Mount St. Clare College, Clinton, IA and a BA in Art Education, from Immaculate Heart College, Los Angeles, CA. Additionally she studied at St. Ambrose College, Davenport, IA; Iowa State University, Ames, IA; Loras College, Dubuque, IA; De Paul University and The Art Institute, Chicago, IL; Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL. Sister Mary Klein held teaching certificates in both Iowa and California.
Sister Mary of the Angels Klein joined The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton, Iowa on June 13, 1932, and professed her final vows on June 19th, 1938
Sister Mary of the Angels spent 37 of her 62 years of active ministry at St. Anthony Parish, Reedley, California, where she served in several capacities, including middle grades teacher and principal, religious education instructor, and pastoral minister. St. Anthony Parish honored her with a farewell reception and the mayor proclaimed June 8, 1997 as "Sister Mary of the Angels Day" in recognition of her "faithful service to the young, the sick, the hungry and the poor in the city of Reedley."
In addition to her service there, she had taught in the Midwest for 25 years at the following schools; St. Patrick's, Clinton, IA; St. Mary's, Hawarden, IA; St. Gerald's, Oak Lawn, IL; St. Mary's, Carrollton, MO.
Sister Mary of the Angels Klein retired to The Canticle in 1997, where she lived until she moved to The Alverno in September, 2009.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
