Shirley Ann Stokes, 78, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away at home with her family at her side on Thursday, October 6, 2022. Funeral services will occur at 12 pm on Monday, October 17, at Lemke Funeral Homes — South Chapel. A visitation occurs one hour prior from 11 am until the service hour at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Prentice Walton, Samuel Miller, Kendall Walton, Leon Walton, Isaiah Nimmers, Lawrence Nimmers and Noah Nimmers. Burial will immediately follow at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Shirley was born July 19, 1944, in Macon, Georgia, the daughter of Wylie and Willie Mae (Lowe) Walton. She was united in marriage to Ervie Stokes in 1982 - Ervie passed away in 1994.
Shirley attended Clinton Community College and would go on to establish her career as a Nurses Aid with a primary focus on helping children with disabilities.
Shirley was a long-time member of the 2nd Baptist Church in Clinton, Iowa.
Shirley enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and tending to her garden. She loved to go thrift shopping and enjoyed games of chance at the Casino. Shirley was the loving matriarch of the family and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
Shirley is survived by her daughter — Angela Martinez of Clinton; son — William Mack of Ohio; two grandchildren — Heather and Prentice; several great-grandchildren; her siblings — Leon (Maude) Walton of Georgia, LeRoy Walton of Clinton and Gloria (John) Pickens of Clinton; with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brothers and sisters.
