Obituary for Shirley Jean Grear (Carnes)

Shirley Jean Grear, 77, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. Funeral services will occur at 12 pm on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). A visitation will occur 2 hours prior from 10 am until the service hour on Saturday. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Shirley was born December 23, 1940 in Bloomfield, Iowa the daughter of George and Martha (Rullman) Carnes. She was united in marriage to Robert E. Grear on February 26, 1960 in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Shirley was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She worked as a certified nurse’s aide for the Clinton Manor Home, the Alverno and the Clinton Retirement Home.

Shirley enjoyed reading, crocheting and spending time on the computer. She also enjoyed collecting bells, tins, precious moments and Tweety Birds. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed taking long walk and loved going to flee markets. She dearly loved her fur babies, her dogs, Sugar and Powder. Above all, she loved her family very much and will be sadly missed.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert E. Grear of Clinton, IA; sons – Robert (Linda) W. Grear of Fulton, IA and Douglas (Carol) Grear of Clinton, IA; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters – Sherry Robinson of Ottumwa, IA and Mary Smith of Cedar Rapids, IA; brother – Rick (Johnette) Carnes of Maryville, TN; with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding Shirley in death were her parents, 1 sister and 1 brother.
