Obituary for Savella "Sal" Gruntorad

Savella "Sal" E. Gruntorad, 96, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at Mercy Medical Center - North on Sunday, March 29, 2015. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, at Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Clinton. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p. m. on Tuesday, March 31, with a Rosary taking place at 6:30 p.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel. Pallbearers will be Gary Minaldi, Chris Minaldi, Corey Minaldi, Clarence Gloeckner, Ethan Wanzek and Josh Wanzek. Burial will immediately follow the Funeral Mass at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Savella was born July 27, 1918 in Crete, Nebraska, the daughter of Fred and Tillie (Bals) Buntemeyer. She was united in marriage to Roy Gruntorad on October 20, 1936 in Lincoln, Nebraska - Roy passed away in 2005.
Savella was a housewife and worked on the family farm. She was a member of Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Parish and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Church. Savella enjoyed sewing, reading and playing cards. However, what Savella really enjoyed was working, especially on the family farm performing most tasks, including milking cows. She also loved to tend to her garden were she would harvest and can the produce every fall to enjoy later or to give to family members. She loved to cook and bake and was happy to invite the entire family over for a hearty Sunday meal. After a meal, party or picnic, she loved to socialize with the family. Above all she loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren.
Savella is survived by one daughter - Carleen (Larry) Minaldi of Nederland, TX., three sons - Darrell (Chery) Gruntorad of Clinton, IA.; James Gruntorad of Clinton, IA., Thomas Gruntorad of Sandwich, IL; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; one sister - Gennie Oveson of Clinton, IA., with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Savella in death were her parents, her husband, and two sisters.
Memorials made should be directed to Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Church.
