Obituary for Russell Edward Pollard

Russell Edward Pollard, 98, of Asbury, Iowa (formerly Clinton), passed away at the Iowa City VA Health Care Center on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded with a Memorial service taking place at 1 pm on Monday, November 19, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). A Visitation will occur 2 hours prior to the Memorial Service from 11 am until the time of service at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Russell was born August 24, 1920 in Monroe, Nebraska the son of Andrew and Verna (Cherry) Pollard. Following High School, Russell joined the United State Army and would be engaged in active combat during the Battle of the Bulge during WWII.

On March 23, 1941, Russell was united in marriage to Nadine Reed.

Russell retired from the Clinton DuPont Company following many years in the Maintenance Department.

As a licensed pilot, he enjoyed flying airplanes. He was a true outdoorsman who loved to go hunting, snowmobiling, boating, jet skiing or simply camping in the great outdoors. He was a man of many talents who enjoyed building anything and everything. He will be missed by all those who knew him.

Russell is survived by 1 daughter – Sande (Paul) Tipton of St. Louis, MO; 2 sons – Russell (Nancy) Pollard II of Hot Springs, AK and Andy (Karen) Pollard of Dubuque, IA; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 sister – Shirley May Clasman of Los Angeles, CA.

Preceding Russell in death were her parents, his wife and 1 brother.
