Obituary for Robert E. Schaefer

Robert E. Schaefer, 79, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, Iowa on June 24, 2015. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, at Lemke Funeral Homes - North Chapel (2304 North Second Street). A visitation will occur from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, at Lemke Funeral Homes - North Chapel. Burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery.
Robert was born June 26, 1935 in Pen Argyle, Pennsylvania the son of August and Mary (Drake) Schaefer. He was a 1953 graduate of Fairfield High School. Following high school, Robert achieved a two year technical degree in machining and tool and die making. Robert was united in marriage to Shirley Manning on May 11, 1957 in Clinton, Iowa.
Robert worked for the Collis Company in Clinton, Iowa for 30 years, as a Product Engineer. He loved Engineering and was a member of various Engineering clubs.
Robert was an avid model car and train hobby enthusiast. Much of his basement would be consumed with either one or both of his hobbies. He also loved bigger cars, watching many NASCAR and Indy car road races. His other passion was reading, sometimes reading for hour on end. Above all, he loved his family very much, especially spending time with his grandkids.
Robert is survived by one daughter - Tamara (Mac) Smith of Chicago, IL.; two sons - Lance (Susan) Schaefer of Guernsey, IA., Darrin (Julie) Schaefer of Onslow, IA.; six grandchildren; with many niece, nephews, cousins and friends he's met through his life.
Preceding Robert in death were his parents.
