Obituary for Robert Maurice "Bob" Benson

Robert “Bob” Maurice Benson 82, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at MercyOne Medical Center on Wednesday, August 12, 2020. Private family graveside services will take place with burial at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Bob was born March 18, 1938 in Cordova, Illinois the son of Maurice and Gladys (Genung) Benson. He was married to Lois Jenson until her passing in 2002. He was then united in marriage to Rosemary Dodge on May 15, 2006 – she passed in 2016.

Bob was an operator and also set-up rolling mills and slitters – working for Jim Walter for 17 years and later Air Vent for 19 years.

Bob loved being outdoors, especially camping – spending time with his family. He enjoyed working on small engines. He also enjoyed talking about farming with his family. He liked to watch football, cheering on his favorite team – the Oakland Raiders and he enjoyed watching baseball and basketball. He was a very social person, enjoyed chatting with friends, making new friends and was always available to help someone in need.

Bob is survived by a daughter – Ruth (Larry) Stauffer Sr.; a son - Elmer “Jim” Harris, one sister Ruth (Edwin) Kerr and one brother – George (Ida) Kerr; 10 grandchildren - with special caregiver Lynn (Jim) Bray; 24 great-grandchildren and 37 great-great-grandchildren with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife – Lois and second wife – Rosemary.
