Obituary for Rickie "Rick" Block

Rickie "Rick" A. Block, 63, of Folletts, Iowa past away at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Tuesday, July 5, 2016. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded . A Memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). A celebration of his life will occur from 1:00 p.m. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be private. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Rick was born June 2, 1953 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Alfred and Clara (Kaczinski) Block. He was a graduate of DeWitt High School and continue his education at a vocational school in Chicago.
Rick worked as a mechanic for many years at the Volkswagen dealership Des Moines and in Clinton. He also worked as a mechanic for Pelham Brothers Auto until opening up and operating his own business in Folletts -"Ricks Performance Repair".
Rick passion was building, fixing or modifying cars, especially Volkswagen's. He attended numerous car shows and would enter his 1949 Anglia car and his Volkswagen pickup that he custom built; through the years he collected many trophies. Rick loved to shoot pool, especially playing in his league. Above all he loved spending time with his family and friends and will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.
Rick is survived by one brother - Dennis (Petra) Block of Hot Springs Village AR; one niece - Lindsay (Russ) Monco of Downers Grove, IL; one nephew - Casey Block of Chicago, IL; several cousins as well as the many friends he's met throughout his life.
Preceding Rick in death were his parents.
The family of Rick Block would like to thank all of his friends who have helped him through a very difficult time, as well as, the entire medical staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
