Obituary for Richard N. Varner

Richard N. Varner, 84 of Clinton died Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center South Campus. Honoring his wishes cremation rites have been accorded. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 13, 2014, at 2:00p.m., at Lemke Funeral Homes South Chapel, with a visitation starting at 1:00p.m. also at the funeral home.
Richard was born May 29, 1929 in Sterling, Illinois, the son of George and Goldie (Brewster) Varner .
Richard served his country enlisting in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1948-1951. Richard was united in marriage to Janet Nixon on May 16, 1953, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Richard worked at Ralston Purina in Clinton. He enjoyed wood working. He loved to hunt and fish always taking his sons with him. He also spent time with his sons at the track watching drag racing. His favorite thing was to hear his wife play the piano. Richard will be sadly missed by many.
Survivors include his wife, Janet of Clinton; children, Richard D. (Cathy) Varner of Freeport; Lori Buikema of Clinton; Daniel (Connie) Varner of Camanche; David and (Beth) Varner of Clinton; Roberta DeMarr of Kentucky; Kevin and (Gina) Varner of Clinton; Lenette Varner of Clinton; 20 grandchildren, 19 great–grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

A special Thank You to the Mercy South staff for taking such good care of our dad and for the dialysis unit for all the kindness you have shown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 grandchildren.
