Obituary for Richard Sweeney

Richard Edward Sweeney, 78, of Clinton, Iowa passed away with his family by his side at Eagle Point Nursing Home on Monday, February 13, 2023. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded with a celebration of his life occurring this Spring. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Richard was born May 14, 1944 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Charles and Arla (Keeley) Sweeney. He was a 1963 graduate of Clinton High School.

Richard was a long-time member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1963 to 1969 in the 101st Artillery Battery B Company.

Richard worked for JL Electric Motors from 1963 to 1965. He then worked for International Harvester retiring there after 33 years, working as a machine operator.

Richard loved the outdoors, especially fishing. He loved watching the History channel and taking rides. He also enjoyed playing cards and always enjoyed the many animals he had throughout his life. Above all, he loved his family very much and will be incredibly missed.

Richard is survived by his four daughters - Sharon (Bruce) Rounds of Clinton, Tammy (Troy) Lewis of Clinton, Shelly (Guy Holden) Kyarsgaard of Camanche and Debbie (Frank Edens) Johnson of Clinton; grandchildren - Toshia (Jared) Paarmann, Sadie Tenboer, Kayleigh (Adam Duringa) Schultz, Ashley Kershner, Jordan (Ashley) Schultz, Annabelle Gautreaux, Katelyn Grage, Korrel Kyarsgaard, and Dallas Kyarsgaard; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandsons; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers - Frank and Don.
