Obituary for Richard Schmitz Sr.

Richard E. Schmitz Sr., 56, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away at Mercy Medical Center, on August 15th, 2012. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21st at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (West side of Clinton Lawn Cemetery). A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 20th, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel. Burial will take place, following the funeral service, at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Richard was born on September 8th, 1955, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Charles Sr. and Nancy (Foster) Schmitz. He was a 1973 graduate of Clinton High School. Richard married Connie Redman in 1973, they later divorced, however remained lifelong best friends.
Richard was proud of his service in the U.S. Navy, serving six years with four years aboard the U.S.S. Nimitz. Richard worked nearly 20+ years for Equistar, Clinton facility, as an Electrician/Instrumentation Technician.
Richard enjoyed camping, canoeing, hunting, fishing and generally loved being outdoors. He had a passion for Genealogy tracing his family back to the Mayflower. Richard loved his family, especially his grandchildren and his beloved dogs.
Richard is survived by three children - Richard Jr. (Nickie) of Clinton, Ryan (Jen) Schmitz Cassville, WI., Apryl Schmitz of Clinton, 3 grandchildren - Lanie, Ryan, Rylee with one on the way, two sisters - Jody Wenzel of Louisville KY, Stacey (Kevin) Arms of Camanche; two brothers - Charlie (Maria) Schmitz Jr. of Crosby TX., Kenny Schmitz of Clinton, IA.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Doni.
