Obituary for Richard Morris Petersen

Richard Morris Petersen, 85, passed away at the Eagle Point Care Center in Clinton on Friday, May 15, 2020. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a private burial will take place at the Rock Island Arsenal. Lemke Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Richard was born in Bryant, Iowa, on November 2, 1934, the son of Morris and Alma (Voss) Petersen. He graduated from Charlotte High School in 1952. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was active during the Korean War and served as an M.P. in Alaska. He retired from Lord Baltimore Press/International Paper in Clinton after 36 years.

Richard was an avid reader, enjoyed hiking and fishing, and was a sports enthusiast. He especially loved baseball, was a devoted Yankees fan, and regularly attended Clinton Lumber Kings games.

Richard is survived by a sister, June Houser of Waukesha, WI; two brothers, Kenneth (Nancy) Petersen of Morrison, IL, and Larry (Joyce) Petersen of Clinton; his former wife, Sharon Petersen of Bettendorf; a step-daughter, Kayne (Jeffrey) Kaczinski of Davenport; and two granddaughters, Rachel (Eric) Wells of Bettendorf, and Megan Kaczinski of Davenport.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Darlene Coder, Shirley Smith, Donna DeSaw, and infant Jean Marie.
