Obituary for Raymond L. Myers

Raymond L. (Ray) Myers, 89, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at the Alverno on February 3, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 12, at First United Presbyterian Church in Clinton. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ray was born March 12, 1926 in rural Kinross, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Ethel (Moody) Myers. In order to serve his country, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II after attending high school in Kinross, Iowa. During his time in service, Ray was assigned to the 872nd Engineer Aviation Battalion in the Asiatic Theatre of Operations, as a heavy truck driver and dispatcher assisting in the construction of air strips. He was stationed in Luzon (Leyte), Philippines and in Okinawa, Japan.

Following his return from service, Ray was united in marriage to Evelyn Wulf on October 12, 1947 at Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation, Iowa. Ray and Evelyn then moved to Clinton and purchased their first home together where they raised four children.
Ray retired from DuPont in Clinton, Iowa after many years of service, working in the maintenance department as a sheet metal worker and welder. After retirement from DuPont, he became a equipment specialist for Air Control. Ray was also a member of AMVETS post 28.
Ray enjoyed the outdoors and traveling all over the country, with friends and family, enjoying many of those trips on his motorcycle.

Ray is survived by three daughters; Teresa (Denny) Miller of Dubuque, IA, Linda (Mike) Pedersen of Bellevue, IA, Donna (Dave) Schmitt of Dickeyville, WI, one son; Charles Myers of Clinton, IA, and seven grandchildren.

Preceding Raymond in death were his parents, his former wife, Evelyn, and two sisters, Marion Schiebel and Janeene Adam.
Special thanks to Ed and Maggie Gaudet, Orville Birkner, and Ellie Kennedy during our time of need. Thanks also to his friend in heaven, Dick Sykes, who passed away just one day before our dad, Ray.
