Obituary for Raymond James Glowacki

Raymond James Glowacki, 83, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away on January 7, 2023 at MercyOne Medical Center. Services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 10:00am-11:00am, one hour before the Mass. Cremation rites have been accorded. Lemke Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Ray was born Feb. 1, 1939 in Winona, MN; the son of Dominic and Angeline (Kujak) Glowacki. His boyhood was spent on a farm in Pine Creek, WI, and he graduated from Winona Cotter High School in 1957. In 1958, he enlisted in the Air Force and was trained as a hydraulics specialist at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

He married Marcia Brown in 1963 in Clinton, IA. They had three sons: Richard, James, and Jeffrey. In 1970 they adventurously moved to Brisbane, Australia. Two years later they returned to Clinton, IA and eventually moved to Winona, MN. During this time Ray owned several successful businesses as a pipefitter and temperature control specialist. Ray and Marcia divorced in 1982.

In 2002 Ray moved back to Queensland, Australia and remained there for 18 years; enjoying his favorite passions of golfing and sunshine – G’day mate! In 2020, Ray returned to his family in Clinton, IA.

Ray had a charm and a smile that made him a natural salesman. Most who knew him would say he enjoyed experiencing life, taking on new challenges, and that he was blessed and cursed with a wanderlust spirit. He did what he could to live his best life and he will be missed.

He is survived by his sons: Richard (Sherida Bornfleth), Seattle, WA, James, Blaine, MN, and Jeffrey (Mary), Los Angeles, CA, his sisters: Jane Howard, Clinton, IA, and Suzanne Holmes, Camanche, IA, grandchildren: Jamie, Jaxon, and Gryffin, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Dominic and Angeline Glowacki, and two brothers: Stephen and Ralph. In lieu of Flowers, memorials can be made to Prince of Peace Church or The American Stroke Association (https://www.stroke.org/).
