Obituary for Phyllis Jean Spencer (Rininger)

Phyllis Jean Spencer, 86, of Clinton, Iowa passed away following an extended illness on Friday, October 28, 2022. Private family services will take place with burial at Oakland Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Phyllis was born June 13, 1936 in Akron, Ohio the daughter of Kenneth and Jeanette (Reininger) Rininger. Phyllis was united in marriage to William A. Spencer on July 16, 1954 in Braceville, Ohio.

She was a member of Cathedral of Tomorrow Church in Akron, Ohio. Phyllis and family moved to Iowa in 1972.

Phyllis worked as a floor aide at a local assisted living facility in Clinton, Iowa.

Phyllis was blessed with an artistic talent and loved to draw, color, paint ceramics and stitch plastic canvass. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed both listening to music and singing. She loved her two fur-babies – her dog Raven and cat Pishi. Her favorite times of the year were the Holidays, especially Christmas – enjoying both decorating and cooking for family. Above all, she loved her family very much and will be greatly missed.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter – Dr. Theresa Spencer, D.C., of Clinton; two sons – Stephen (Robin) Spencer of West Des Moines, IA and Mark (Judy) Spencer of Millsboro DE; three grandchildren – Christopher (Melissa) Spencer of Des Moines, IA, Kristina (Lars) Erickson of Columbia, MD and Heather (Martin) Moore of Crofton, MD; five great-grandchildren – Elise, George, Will, Anja and Saoirse; one sister - Gloria Fishburn of Avon, Ohio and one brother - Jon (Grace) Rininger of Windham, OH; with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William A. Spencer, two granddaughters – Stephanie and Sarah, siblings - JoAnn Myers, David Rininger, Kenneth Rininger, Bruce Rininger.

Memorials made can be directed to the Clinton County Humane Society in Phyllis’ name.
