Peter Lyon, born March 8, 1954, in Clinton, Iowa, passed away June 17, 2014 at his home in Colorado.
The youngest of four sons born to Max and Louise Lyon, Peter grew up in Clinton, graduating from Clinton High School in 1972. He graduated from the University of Iowa and then received his law degree from the University of Colorado.
The open spaces and mountains of Colorado called to him and he stayed to live and work in the Boulder, Colorado area.
As an attorney he specialized in risk management and legal counsel in the area of motorsports. He passionately worked as general counsel and risk management-insurance manager for many motorsports entities, most notably the International Motor Sports Association, the Sports Car Club of America and the National Hot Rod Association. Colleagues describe Peter as "one of the finest gentlemen in motorsports" praising his integrity and dedication to safety in motorsports and stating "his lasting impact on motorsports will remain for years to come."
In his private life Peter specialized in people. From childhood and throughout his adult life Peter made and kept good friends in all walks of life. He was a kind and generous man who stayed attuned to the needs and lives of his friends. He was a beloved brother and a much loved "Uncle Peter" not only to the families of his brothers but also to the families of his friends.
To friends and family Peter was "one of the good guys".
Preceded in death by his parents, Peter is survived and lovingly remembered by his brothers Kim, Terry and Lynn and their families.
Taken from us too soon, Peter's death tells us to hold close the ones you love.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 7, at Lemke Funeral Homes- South Chapel (West side of Clinton Lawn cemetery). Burial will immediately follow at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
