Obituary for Otis Hofer

Otis Earl Hofer, 91, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away peacefully on April 1st, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center - South Campus. Funeral service will be held Friday, April 5th, at 2:00 p.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (west side of Clinton Lawn Cemetery). A visitation will be held three hours prior to the funeral service from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Otis was born June 19th, 1921 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Earl and Rachel (Johnston) Hofer. Otis was united in marriage to Alice Nielson on December 7th, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa.
Following his marriage to Alice, Otis farmed for 20 years, he then managed, and was a board member of C & J Farm Service Company in Low Moor, Iowa. Otis was a dedicated Clinton County 4-H leader and mentored the 4-H youth, especially teaching the 4-H kids how to groom and prepare calves for 4-H shows at the local, State and National level competitions; this included extensive traveling throughout the Midwest. On July 19th, 2012 he was inducted into the Clinton County 4-H Hall of Fame. In parallel to his dedication to 4-H, he also coached youths at various sports.
For six years Otis was a councilman for the City of Low Moor, following that he was the Mayor of Low Moor for another 6 years . Additionally he was the President and member of the Low Moor Lions Club. A portion, nine years, of his retirement was spent in Sun City, Florida. In 2005 Otis and Alice moved back to Clinton, Iowa.
Otis is survived by his wife Alice; one daughter - Shirley Busch of Davenport, IA.; two sons- Terry Hofer of Low Moor, IA., Ronny (Alice) Hofer of Camanche, IA.; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one sister - Maureen Kellher of GA. ; two brothers- Merrill (Mildred) Hofer of AZ and Dr. Loren (Lorraine) Hofer of FL. - "and Dad's faithful dog Buddy".
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother in-law.
