Obituary for Orlie "Jay" Oates Jr.

Orlie "Jay" E. Oates Jr., 60, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at Mercy Medical Center – North on Sunday, April 1, 2018. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Private services and burial will take place at a later date. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Jay was born May 26, 1957 in Norfolk, Virginia, the son of Orlie Sr. and Shirley (King) Oates. He was united in marriage to Marla Templeton on October 30, 2002 in Las Vegas, Nevada – Marla passed away on November 18, 2013.
Jay was a long-haul truck driver for AV Transportation. Additionally, he also worked for his uncle in the oil fields at the North Slope of Alaska for many years.
He loved watching sports and loved watching the Chicago Cubs. Jay had a great sense of humor and loved listening to classic rock and country music. He loved all animals, especially his dog, Dulce. He taught Dulce many tricks including fetching him a beer. Jay loved barbequing and cooking with his wife Marla. He also loved eating his mother's Ozark Apple cake. Although Jay was very proud to be raised in Texas (a Texan thru and thru), he also loved his Iowa family like they were his own. Jay had many friends all over the World that he enjoyed talking to online. Everyone Jay met became a dear friend.
Jay is survived by his special cousin Lisa McLain and her husband Chuck Savard and their daughter Katy of Henderson, NV; Aunt Donna Mileham; cousins – Denise Wishhard, Mark Mileham, Ditty Wilbanks, Ray Huffman, "His Girls": sister in-law - Pam Arnold, niece - Mindy Judge, great-niece - Abbie Brown and mom in-law Georgia Templeton and several brother in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Marla.
