Obituary for Michael Benjamin ""Mike"" Vicks

Michael “Mike” Benjamin Vicks, 53, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa surrounded by his wife and daughters, on Monday, September 3, 2018. A Funeral Mass will occur at 9 am on Saturday, September 8, at Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church. A visitation will be held from 4 pm to 8 pm on Friday, September 7th, at Lemke Funeral Home’s - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). Mike, was not a suit and tie kind of guy, so the family asks that those attending the visitation dress casually. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following the Funeral Mass with a private family burial at a later date. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Mike was born on February 28, 1965 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Terry and Vicki (Luckritz) Vicks. Mike was united in marriage to Dawn Jorgensen on August 20, 1994.

Mike was a 1983 graduate of Mater Dei High School, where he was involved in many sports and met many lifelong friends. For the past 31 years he worked as an operator at International Paper and West Rock (formerly Rock-Tenn) where he was currently employed.

Mike was an avid outdoorsman. You could always find him either in the water or out in a field. He enjoyed spending time around a campfire with family and friends enjoying beer and s’mores. But, he especially loved hunting and fishing and being able to share his passions with anyone willing to learn. He loved to show his wife and daughters how to catch fish at Rathbun Lake or the Mississippi River. He was best known for his fish fry’s by family and friends. Mike was a part of Crappie USA and Crappie Masters Tournament Circuit. He was a 15-time national qualifier with Mark Mussmann.

Mike is survived by his wife, Dawn Vicks, two daughters- Megan and Halee Vicks, his parents - Terry and Vicki (Luckritz) Vicks, sister- Tammy (Andy) Isenhour; with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Preceding Mike in death are his paternal and maternal grandparents, and cousin- Brian Vicks.

In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations can be directed to the family and will be distributed to Mike’s favorite charities.
