Michael “Mike” J. Foley, 92, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at Addington Place (formerly Prairie Hills) on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Funeral services take place at 11 am on Saturday, May 20, at the Journey Church, Clinton. A visitation occurs from 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday, May 19, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel, with an additional visitation occurring one-hour prior to the Funeral Service on Saturday. Burial takes place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Michael was born June 4, 1930 in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Michael F. and Ina (Davis) Foley.
He served his Country in the U.S. Army, a veteran of the Korean war.
Michael was united in marriage to Elaine Laufenberg in Mineral Wells, Texas in April 1952 -Elaine passed away in 1987. Michael was then united in marriage to Ruth DeVries-Wiersema in December 1989 in Fulton, Illinois.
Michael was a member of Journey Church, Clinton. He worked in the Material Management Division of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, retiring after 26 years.
Michael loved walking, often times before and after work and sometimes for miles at a time. He enjoyed going for rides with kids and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid Pittsburg Steeler fan and enjoyed going to the Casino and playing games of chance. Above all, he loved his family very much, especially, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Michael is survived by his wife Ruth of Clinton, five children - Barb (Robert) Koenes of Clinton, David Foley of Clinton; Doris (Mark) Whalen of Fulton, IL, Susan McChane of Albany, IL and Michelle (Darwin) Johnson of Clinton; five step-children - Kathy (Don) Montgomery of Fulton, IL, Jim Wiersema of Fulton, Il, Cindy Wiersema of Dyersville, IA, Tim (Bonny) Wiersema of Clinton and Russell (Karen) Wiersema of Morrison; many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; one sister in-law - Emmy Foley of Davenport, IA; with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Michael in death are his parents, first wife Elaine, three brothers and one sister and two daughter in-laws and one step-daughter.
