Obituary for Merritt Lee Dann

Merritt Lee Dann, 74, of Camanche, Iowa passed away at home on Wednesday, June 6, 2018. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, June 11, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). A Visitation will occur three hours prior to the Memorial service on Monday from 2 pm until the time of service at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place at a later date. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Merritt was born January 5, 1944 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Merritt P. and Claribel (Tompkins) Dann. He was a graduate of DeWitt High School. Merritt was united in marriage to Sandra "Sandy" Newman on March 23, 1963 in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Merritt was an over-the-road truck driver throughout his career and would later conclude his truck driving career with Clausen Trucking.
He loved watching NASCAR racing, wrestling and boxing. He loved spending time and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his fur-baby - his faithful dog, Charlie. Above all, he loved his family very much and will be greatly missed.
Merritt is survived by his wife Sandy of Camanche, IA; 3 sons – Merritt (Hope) E. Dann of Clinton, IA, Mark (Shelley) Dann of Fulton, Illinois and Ted Dann of Camanche; 9 grandchildren - Zoey, Brooke, Jessica, Jenna, Tori, Kodi, Dustin, Joshua and Ariel; 15 great-grandchildren - Lakin, Carden, Harper, Emma, Liam, Rylan, Maddox, Tinleigh, Carter, Cage, Camryn, Caden, Hudson, Drake and Charleigh; with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Merritt in death were his parents, one grandson – Michael and three brothers.
