Obituary for Melvin H. Rose

Melvin H. Rose, 86, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at Mercy Living Center - North on Saturday, September 3, 2016. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded . A Memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel. A gathering of family and friends will occur from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Melvin was born June 9, 1930 in Old Lebanon, Wisconsin, the son of Herman and Alma (Zimdars) Rose. He was a graduate of Watertown High School in Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Army, a veteran of the Korean War.
Melvin was united in marriage to Nancy Fiegel on October 14, 1978 in Racine, Wisconsin.
He worked as a coal operator for Wisconsin Electric, retiring after 28 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clinton and was also a member of the Watertown, Wisconsin American Legion post #189 for over 60 years.
Melvin enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting. He loved playing slow pitch softball with his brothers in Watertown, playing for the "Old Judge and Alice" team for many years. Above all he loved his family very much and will be greatly missed.
Melvin is survived by his wife Nancy of Clinton, IA; three daughters - Pamela (Mark) Cunningham of Clinton, IA, Linda (Gerard) Banayad of Schertz, TX, Christine Fredrickson of Saulk City, WI; two sons - Floyd (Barbara) Nuemberg of Oakcreek, WI, Jerry (Elizabeth) Peltier of Clinton, IA; one daughter in-law - Roberta Peltier of Iowa City, IA; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother - Kenneth Rose of Hartsville, SC; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Melvin in death were his parents, one daughter - Robin Gillogly and one son - Terry Peltier.
