Obituary for Melvin Good

Melvin Byron Good, 87, of Camanche, passed away peacefully at his residence on April 30, 2012. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 4th, at 11:00 a.m. at the McCausland United Methodist Church. A visitation will occur on Thursday, May 3rd, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the McCausland United Methodist Church, McCausland, Iowa. Burial will take place at the Prairie Union Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Melvin was born on July 16th, 1924 in Cod Fish Hollow Jackson County, the son of Ora and Leola (Mills) Good. He married LaQuita Rickels on September 22nd, 1953 in Preston, Minn.
For a period of time Melvin was a farmer, worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa, Iowa and at Freese Ford Tractor Company. After 28 years at International Paper Company he finally retired as a journeyman plate maker.
Melvin had a true passion for horses, even training trick horses that he would bring and participate with to various local rodeo's. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding, treasure hunting, and loved going out dancing Friday and Saturday nights with his wife.
Melvin is survived by LaQuita of Camanche; five daughters - Debra Good of Clinton, Cynthia (Randy) Fuller of DeWitt, Mary Good of Camanche, Andrea (Rich) Eggers of Clinton, Angela (Michael) Ahrens of DeWitt; two sons- Meynard (Deb) Good of Camanche, Thayne (Linda Pershing) Good of Camanche; eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild, and one on the way, with several step-grandchildren and several step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson- Brian Fuller; one sister; three brothers and one sister in-law.
