Obituary for Marty Prier

Marty Prier age 50 of Clinton , died peacefully in his home on September 30, 2011 surrounded by the love of his life Diane Kerschieter , visits with family and the most caring and devoted friends a man could ever ask for.
Mr. Prier was born on February 15, 1961 in DeWitt, Iowa to James and Margaret (Jacobsen) Prier. He was a graduate of DeWitt Community High School.
At the age of thirteen, he met and became friends with Ted Kennedy Jr. as both were stricken with osteosarcoma (a form of bone cancer), but both over came all odds and survived thanks to treatments provided by St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He continued as a passionate advocate for cancer patients with St. Jude's until his death.
Marty loved fishing, camping, animals, practical jokes and spending time with his friends.
Surviving are his children Melissa Petersen , Paul Prier and a grandson, Bobby all from Clinton, Iowa. Sisters, Vickie (Bruce) Garwood of West Dundee, IL, Cindy (Chris) Wiseman of Davenport, IA and brother Scotty (Kathy) of DeWitt, IA. as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Marty in death were his brother James and his parents.
The family will receive visitors at the Lemke Funeral Home –South Chapel in Clinton from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2011 with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 p.m. Pastor Dr. Donald Batz will be presiding over the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made out to the family.
