Obituary for Marilyn Margaret Schmidt

Marilyn Margaret Schmidt, 86, of Clinton passed away Wednesday September 14th at Mercy Medical Center North Campus. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 19th, at 10:30 a.m. at The First Congregational Church, Clinton. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 18th from 2 – 5 pm at Lemke Funeral Homes-South Chapel. To begin the visitation the Wa-tan-ye club will conduct a service. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family.
Marilyn was born on January 3rd, 1925 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Elfrieda (Zastrow) McNamara. She married Everett Schmidt in Clinton on September 4th 1949.
Marilyn was active in many organizations including: past President of the Clinton Women's Club, an Advisory Commission member for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), maintained a 14 year tenure as commissioner with the Clinton Housing Authority Board, past President of Elijah Buell PTA, City Counsel PTA's, the Iowa Postal Workers Auxiliary, past President of The Wa-tan-ye Club, American Legion Auxiliary #190, past secretary of the Clinton National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and a member of the Felix Adler Memorial Commission. In addition, she served 2 terms on the Clinton School Board, was a 50+ year member of the First Congregational Church where she served on the Board of Trustees, 20 years on the church's Board of Education, and 3 years as the Church's Bible School Director.
Other accomplishments and organizations include; Marilyn was selected as one of the YWCA's Women of Action in 1988, she was a Fantasy of Lights Board Member and decorator for 15 years. She volunteered for the Clinton Art Association and Clinton Historical Society, was a volunteer at the Mercy Medical Center Gift Shop for 28 years and active in the area cancer crusade and March of Dimes.
Marilyn worked for North Western Bell for 12 years and later retired from A. C. Nielsen's.
Marilyn enjoyed playing cards, traveling, spending time with her family, being active in church and being involved in the many organizations she belonged to.
Marilyn is survived by: 1 daughter – Lori (Patrick) Mollman of Urbandale, Iowa, 1 son-in-law –Bill Williams of Vallejo, California, 2 granddaughters – Katianne Sharp of Memphis, Tennessee, Emily Howard of San Luis Obispo, California, 1 grandson – Tyler Mollman of Urbandale, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and daughter Lisa Williams.
