Obituary for Marie Cartmell

Marie Doreen Cartmell, 89, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at Eagle Point Nursing Home on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Private family graveside services will take place with burial at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Marie was born May 26, 1932 in Lancashire, England, the daughter of Albert and Margaret (Taylor) Cartmell. Following her High School graduation, in Blackpool, England 1948, Marie and her sister Marjorie moved to the United States where Marjorie became a Nanny for a prominent Clinton resident. Marie would find work as a sales person for many years.

Following the loss of her brother in-law, Boyd Watson, Marie and sister Marjorie Watson would reunite as close sisters, living together for many years until Marjorie’s passing on March 11, 2010.

Although Marie would never marry, she was a blessed part of our family. She was a real treasure sharing stories growing up in England and always following the English news. She loved watching TV with her niece, especially detective stories and one of her favorite shows, Downton Abbey. She also loved Holidays and being able socialize with the family. Everyone always walked away with a smile on their face after talking to “Aunt” Marie. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family.

Marie is survived by her brothers – Albert Cartmell of Leyland, England, Alan Cartmell and Norman Cartmell both of Broughton, England; two nieces – Tammy (Bruce) Dixon of Cedar Rapids, IA and Tina (Mike) Goddard of Clinton, IA; two nephews – Boyd “Pete” (Tatianna) Watson of Land O’Lakes, FL and Cloyd Watson of Clinton; great nieces – Ashly Klooster, Brooke Dixon, Nikki Watson, Michelle Goddard and Mariah Goddard; great nephews – Tye Klooster, Travis Klooster, Josh Watson, Curt Watson, Chris Watson, Konnor Lemke and Logan Lemke.

Proceeding her in death are her parents, two sisters, two brothers and nephew in-law George Lemke.

Memorials made can be directed to the family.
