Obituary for Lucille Meyer (Christiansen)

Lucille Meyer, 92, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at the Alverno on Saturday, April 20, 2019. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 26, at the Elvira Zion Lutheran Church. A visitation will occur from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, at the Church. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Lucille was born at home near Welton, Iowa on November 20, 1926, the daughter of John and Amelia ( Petersen) Christiansen. Her folks moved to the Elvira area when she was six years old.

She was baptized and confirmed at the Elvira Zion Lutheran Church. She belonged to the Luther League and taught Sunday School for many years. She also sang in the Church choir under the direction of Pastor F.E. Schoenbohm.

After graduating on May 4, 1944, she took a teacher’s course at Mount St. Claire College in Clinton and taught at country schools under Mr. Bowersox for four years. After three years she took a course at Cedar Falls.

On August 22, 1948 she married Orville H. Meyer. They farmed in the Elvira area. In January 1970, they moved into Elvira. They both worked at Feeders’ Supply in Elvira until 1995 when they retired and moved to Clinton, Iowa.

She and Orville both enjoyed traveling. They visited Brazil, Argentina and Peru in South America for 3 weeks with “People to People”, headed by Senators Norm Goodwin and John Camp. They also took two Princess Cruises. They enjoyed trips to casino’s and she enjoyed playing Keno, Bridge, 500 and Euchre. They also enjoyed fishing.

She belonged to the Elvira Lutheran Church her entire life. She was a member of the Moose and a Farm Bureau member.

Lucille is survived by a brother in-law- Donald Mohr; two nieces - Sonia (Brian) Miller and Sue (Rick) Schlichter; two nephews – Steve (Stacey) Mohr and Scott (Karen) Mohr; several great nieces and nephews, several great-great nieces and nephews and best friend - Janis Burken and family and many other friends.

Preceding Lucille in death were her parents, her husband Orville, one sister – Evelyn Mohr and niece – Laurie Mohr.
