Obituary for Lillian Bartels

Lillian Catherine Bartels, 90, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully on June 14, 2014 at the Alverno. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, at Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive - west side of Clinton Lawn Cemetery). Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lillian was born April 19, 1924 in Clinton, Iowa the daughter of William and Rose (Krava) Hyde. She was a 1941 graduate of St. Mary's High School and a 1945 graduate of the Mercy Hospital Nurses Training School, receiving her RN license. Lillian was united in marriage to Walter Bartels on August 13, 1946 in Clinton, Iowa.
Upon graduating from nurses school, Lillian worked at the Jackson County Hospital in Maquoketa and Mercy Hospital in Clinton. She also helped her husband farm for many years before moving to Clinton.
Lillian was a member of Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church, the AMVETS and the Eagles Club.
Lillian was an avid Cubs fan, and loved following Norte Dame football. She loved being a nurse and helping and caring for everyone. Above all she loved her entire family dearly and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
Lillian is survived by two daughters - Rose Mary (Larry) Edmunds of Clinton, IA., Debbie Kokemueller of Clinton, IA.; one son - Bill (Val) Bartels of Clinton, IA.; ten grandchildren, many great grandchildren, two brothers - Bill (Lois) Hyde of Clinton, IA., James (Yevette) of Newport News VA.; two sisters - Jeannine Lane of Lutz FL., Mary Lou Sparks of Bryant, IA., with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding Lillian in death were her parents Rose and Bill Hyde, her Husband Walter, two her daughters -Susan and Rita, her twin Rose Mary, one brother Charles Hyde, her granddaughter Jennifer Edmunds and great granddaughter Tory Edmunds.
Memorials made will be directed to the wishes of the family.
