Obituary for LaVern "Bud" Schmidt

LaVern 'Bud' C. Schmidt, 83, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa on Friday, April 24, 2015. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Clinton. A vigil service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, with a visitation immediately following from 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive - west side of Clinton Lawn Cemetery). An additional one hour visitation will occur before the 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
Bud was born March 10, 1932 in Jackson County, Iowa the son of Clarence and Mary (Franzen) Schmidt. He attended country schools. Bud served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War; he would later enjoy his Honor Flight trip to Washington D.C., visiting the Korean war memorial. Bud was united in marriage to Emma F. Kilburg on September 8, 1956 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Andrew, Iowa.
Bud was a lifelong farmer, staying connected to his family farm up until the very end.
Bud loved his faith, he was a devout Catholic and a member of Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He was also a member of Low Moor Lions Club, the Cattlemen's Association, the Pork Producers Association, the Master Corn Growers Association and was a corn market Prognosticator.
During his free time he enjoyed dancing and traveling with his wife as well as the family vacations and the occasional golf outing, He also enjoyed socializing with family and friends. Above all his family and farming was always his main priority, he dearly loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bud is survived by his seven children - Rodney (Cindy) Schmidt of DeWitt, IA., Barb (Tom) Trenkamp of Preston, IA., Suellyn (Dennis) Rogis-Dever of Clinton, IA., Joan (Larry) Roling of Preston, IA., Karolyn (Doug) Henningsen of DeWitt, IA., Duane (Annette) Schmidt of Clinton, IA. and Don (Karen) Schmidt of Clinton, IA.; twenty three grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; five sisters - Bertha (John) Miller, Betty (Lorin) Scholtes, Waneda (Lloyd) Michel, Shirley (Tom) Driscoll, Janet (Don) Galloway; his in-laws - Addie (Bernard "Red") Kutsch, Elsie Moeller, Julius Reuter, John (Sharyl) Kilburg, Lorin "Bill" (Karen) Kilburg, Mike "Wayne" (Lois) Kilburg and Janice (Bill) Portz; with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Bud in death were his parents, his wife Emma, one son in-law - Greg Rogis and two grandsons- Carl Roling and Jed Rogis.
