Obituary for Laura Anne Keis

Laura Anne Keis, 47, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away at home on Saturday, June 3, 2017. Honoring her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will take place on Friday, June 9, at 10:00 a.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). A visitation will occur from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Laura was born January 13, 1970 in Monroe, Wisconsin, the daughter of James and Beverly (Hagar) Schmerse. She was a graduate of Blue Springs, Missouri High School. She would further her education, receiving a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education at Northwest Missouri State.
She began her career teaching Adult Education at Clinton Community College, however, she then paused her career to take care of her children. Later, she would change her career and return to college receiving an Associate's Degree from Clinton Community College in nursing and follow that up with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing from the Mount Carmel College of Nursing. She worked at Mercy Medical Center – North Campus.
Laura loved traveling, reading and crocheting. She loved all animals and would frequently help outdoor wild animals, as well as, caring for her indoor fur babies - her beloved dogs and cats. She was also a very social and kind person, always willing to help a friend out, including letting friends stay at her house during snow storms. Above all, she loved her children very much and enjoyed just simply hanging out with them. She will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew her.
Laura is survived by her mother and father – James and Beverly Schmerse of Clinton, IA; her children - Samantha, Allison and Nicholas at home; one sister - Rebecca (Mark) Dye of Independence, MO; with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Preceding Laura in death were her maternal and paternal grandparents.
