Obituary for Kenneth Paul "Ken" Schrader
Kenneth “Ken” P. Schrader, 82, of Camanche, Iowa passed away at MercyOne Medical Center on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. Ken is at peace now after a 17-year battle with Parkinson's disease. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Private family services will take place with burial at Clinton Lawn Cemetery on Saturday, August 29. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Kenneth was born April 5, 1938 in Lost Nation, Iowa the son of Carl and Bernadine (Bloom) Schrader. He enlisted for a 3-year term in the U.S. Navy serving aboard the Destroyer U.S.S. Monssen.
Kenneth was united in marriage to Gloria Skoff on February 8, 1961 at St. Mary’s and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sugar Creek.
Ken was a long-time member of the Church of the Visitation in Camanche. He was also a board member for the Clinton Izaak Walton League, board member for the Fulton Country Club and board member of the Athletic Boosters at Northeast for many years. Following retirement, he was a volunteer game marshal for the John Deere Classic for 10 years.
Ken worked in the Maintenance Department, as a Leadman, for International Paper for 40+ years.
Ken loved the outdoors, he was an avid hunter, game trapper, trap shooter enthusiast. Additionally, he was an avid golfer, recording two holes in-one in his lifetime. He was also an avid softball player and coached little league baseball, having the joy of coaching his son. Kenneth was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, as well as a Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Above all, he loved his family very much and was his grandchildren’s biggest fan.
Ken is survived by his wife Gloria of Camanche; two daughters – Lisa Schrader of Clinton and Patty (Pat) Sullens of Camanche and one son – Keith (Patty) Schrader of Clinton; three grandchildren – Kelli (Colin) Sullivan, Michael (Chelsea) Sullens and Colin Schrader; siblings – Teresa (Jim) Salisbury, Richard (Shirley) Schrader, William (Carol) Schrader, John Schrader, Steve (Carla) Schrader; three sister in-laws Jane, Kathy and Helen; with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters – Phyllis and Margret, three brothers – Robert, James and Paul, sister-in-law – Patsy Schrader.
