Julie Ellen Cooper, 63, of Le Claire, Iowa (formerly of Clinton) passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 8, 2021. Honoring her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded with no services taking place. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Julie was born January 19, 1958 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Leona (Hammerand) Haferbier. She had four siblings – Beverly (Cusimano), Marlene (Greve), Linda (Ron Mangler) and Steve (Carol Haferbier). She was a graduate of East Central High School in Miles, Iowa.

Julie was united in marriage to Steve Cooper on September 25, 1976 in Preston, Iowa - Steve passed away on June 26, 2020.

Julie was an Executive Assistant with Medical Associates for the last 21 years. Prior, she worked as an Executive Assistant at U.S. Bank for 23 years.

Julie loved music, watching movies and doing word searches with her colorful pens. She enjoyed playing board games and games on her cell phone. She dearly loved her “grand” dogs and “grand” cats. She also loved being outdoors, especially tending to her flower garden and just enjoying the fresh air. Above all, she loved her family very much.

Julie is survived by her two daughters - Angela “Angie” (Bob Fore) Cooper of Clinton and Jessica (Brian) Melvin of LeClaire, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Steve, brother Steve Haferbier, mother in-law Shirley Cooper, two brother in-laws - Jimmy Cusimano and Truman Greve.

Julie will be remembered as an awesome, amazing and loving mom who will be most dearly missed.

Memorials made can be directed to the family.

I grew up with the Haferbier family and remember well when Julie Ellen was born. It seems like yesterday. And makes me so sad to think she is gone. My sincerely condolences to her girls and their families on the loss of both their mother and father. Life is so fragile. -- Sharon (Mowat) Marcucci

My heart goes out to the Coopers and Haferbier cousins. Julie was a lovely person, taken too soon. My memories of Julie are mostly from visits to their farm and playing together as kids. She was beautiful, fun, played duets on the piano with my sister Ruth, and treated us kindly. I’m sad she’s gone, but will always remember sweetness.

Julie, I am so saddened by this news. Memories I have to to the time I brought you out of the bookkeeping department to be my secretary, not long out of high school, but you knew shorthand - oh, how important that was in that long ago era before word processing and computers. We meshed well together until you were stolen to the front offices, and until at some point came back together until you left for MA. After a few opportunities to catch up with you there, time moved on so no chance to keep up. You will always be in my memories. -- Bill Z.
