Obituary for Joyce Stuhlman

Joyce Louise Stuhlman, age 80, formerly of Camanche, IA, passed away on Thursday Sept. 14th, 2017 at Grand Haven Retirement Home in Eldrigde, IA.
Joyce was born March 18, 1937 in Princeton, Ill. to Raymond and Dorothy (nee. Kopp) Fullick and moved to Clinton, IA at an early age where she graduated from Clinton High in 1955.
Joyce married Richard Stuhlman on March 9th, 1958, growing their family to include two children, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren over the course of their 59-year marriage.
When her children entered school, Joyce returned to the workforce at the Clinton National Bank Camanche Branch, and later moved on to selling insurance and real estate, and finally as an employee of International Paper Company.
She was devoted to her family and very involved in the lives of her children as Cub Scout and Girl Scout troop leader. She was also an active member of St. Mark's Methodist Church in Camanche as a Bible school teacher and secretary.
Joyce's hobbies included sewing and quilting, and she used her talent to create stuffed animals that brightened the lives of hospitalized children and heart surgery patients as a volunteer for the Mercy Medical Hospital Auxiliary. Joyce logged over 12,000 volunteer hours with the auxiliary, and even spent part of her winter vacations to Mesa, Arizona making quilts for orphanages.
Joyce was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, having started out in Rainbow Girls when she was young. Joyce also delighted in traveling throughout her life, greatly enjoying her snowbird winters to Mesa, Arizona.
Joyce was caring and generous, always eager to lend a helping hand. Her children and grandchildren remember her as cheerful, kind, and loving.
Consistent with her thoughtful and generous nature, Joyce made the decision many years ago to donate her body to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Caring for a mother with Alzheimer's and understanding the likelihood, and eventual reality of her own diagnosis with Alzheimer's, it was Joyce's hope that her body could be part of finding a cure for this disease.
Joyce faced her illness without complaint, choosing to enjoy her family as she was able. Clearly understanding the eventual effects of her disease, it was her desire that there be no service, and requested that any memorials be directed towards finding a cure for Alzheimer's. She faced her illness in the manner she lived her life; with a cheerful heart and kind, generous spirit. Joyce will be dearly missed and remembered as a joy and blessing to all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Richard, son Dann (Sherri), daughter Brenda (Jay Bentley), 4 grandchildren Kari (Emerson) Taylor of Clinton, Jenna (Jay) Sanders of Clinton, Chelsea (Sean Salger) Bentley of North Liberty, Eric Bentley (Devan Worthington) of Iowa City; 5 great grandchildren, Angalina, Juniper, Ezekiel, Thaddeus and Gwendylynn; and 2 brothers, John Fullick and Jim Fullick; 3 sisters, Becky Sigler, Judy Still, and Barb Isaman.
Joyce was preceded in death by one brother (Tom Fullick), one sister (Garnet Norris) and a niece (Kelly Buchanan).
