Obituary for Joseph "JoJo" Boss

JOSEPH "JoJo" BOSS, 55, of Camanche, IA, died Wednesday, January 17th, 2018 at his home after a brave 15-month fight with Mesothelioma. Joe was born on November 3rd, 1962 in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of William and Lola Boss. He graduated from Camanche High School in 1981. He married his high school sweetheart, Jill Hughes on March 27th, 1982. Joe was a long-term employee at Lyondell-Basell. He was very proud of his 2014 Mustang GT and enjoyed Ford Mustangs in general. Joe was an ardent Iowa Hawkeyes fan and greatly admired Walter Payton of the Chicago Bears. More than just a fan of athletics, Joe was an avid weightlifter and cyclist. He loved music and was particularly fond of blue-collar rockers like Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen and Billy Joel. The Mississippi river was Joe's home away from home. He spent many weekends fishing on his boat or on the beach drinking Coronas with friends and family.
Survivors include three brothers, John (Sandy) Boss, Jeff (Carrol) Boss, and Jason (Amy) Boss; one sister, Janelle (Randy) Shores; two sons, Ryan (Dolly) Boss of Chicago and Nathan (Michelle) Boss of Coralville, Iowa; one granddaughter, Kenna Rowan Boss; and aunts and uncles, as well as numerous nieces and nephews; Jill's parents Gary and Janell Hughes who regarded him as a son, and a sister-in-law, Candy (Dave) Bowman. Joe was preceded in death by his father and numerous aunts and uncles.
Joe was a selfless and kindhearted man who always put others before himself. In a reflection of Joe's generous spirit, his body is being donated to the University of Iowa for medical research. The family will host a Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Saturday, January 20th at Gil's in Clinton, Iowa. Friends and family are invited to greet the family from 1:00-1:30pm. The service begins at 1:30pm, followed by a buffet from 2:00-3:30pm. Guests are encouraged to wear their Boss Mesothelioma shirts or Iowa Hawkeye colors. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorial donations may be made out to the family, who will in turn donate to support Mesothelioma research.
