Obituary for John Robert Engler

John Robert Engler, 74, of Springfield, Missouri (formerly of Clinton) passed away at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Campus on Saturday, October 24, 2020. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded with a Memorial visitation taking place from 5 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, October 28, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). Private family burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

John was born August 11, 1946 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Robert and Mary (Jones) Engler. He was a 1964 graduate of Clinton High School. Following high school, he acquired an Associates of Arts and Applied Science in Drafting at Clinton Community College.

John was united in marriage to Mary Jo Jensen on August 28, 1965 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clinton.

John worked at Chemplex, utilizing his drafting and design education, and retired after 20 years of service. However, he didn’t stay retired very long as he would work at the Associated Electric Cooperative in Springfield, Missouri for another 20 years as a Design Draftsman.

John enjoyed golfing, bowling, woodworking and model railroading. He also enjoyed being outdoors, especially camping. Above, all he loved his family very much and will be sadly missed.

John is survived by his wife Mary Jo of Springfield MO; two sons – Dr. Joseph (Carol) Engler of Monticello, IA and Robert (Susan) Engler of Lebanon, TN; three grandchildren - Andrew (Jessica) Engler of Kalona, IA, Noah Engler of Marion, IA and Eliana Engler of Lebanon, TN; one sister – Debra Bousman of Fulton, IL; with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials made can be directed to the American Heart Association, the National Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
