John A. Dodd, 71, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at the University of Iowa Hospitals on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 22, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). A visitation will occur two hours prior to the funeral service on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
John was born July 11, 1946 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Lorin and Frances (Matthews) Dodd. Upon his 1964 graduation from St. Mary's High School, he was drafted into the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a mechanic – a veteran of the Viet Nam War. John was a past member of Clinton AMVETS post 28.
John was united in marriage to Barbara Yaddof on June 24, 1985 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
John worked for many years at Caterpillar Inc., in Davenport, Iowa as a welder. He enjoyed working on cars for his friends and for a period time as a side business. John loved listening to music and he loved his family very much, especially his grandchildren. He was a fun loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
John is survived by his wife Barbara of Clinton, IA; his five children – Cindy, Ryan, Tina, Terry and Tim; 7 grandchildren; one brother – Don with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding John in death were his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
