Obituary for John "Jack" Curtis

John "Jack" R. Curtis, 73, of Camanche, Iowa passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014. A visitation and celebration of his life will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 8, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive - west side of Clinton Lawn Cemetery). Honoring Jack's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation with no funeral service. A private burial will take place at a later date. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jack was born August 25, 1941 in Clinton, Iowa the son of William and Georgia (Degroft) Curtis. He was a graduate of Clinton High School. Jack was united in marriage to Carla Brown on December 28, 1963 in Clinton, Iowa.
Jack graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 1971. Jack served as a police officer for both the Clinton Police Department, 17 years, and the Camanche Police Department, 5-1/2 years. He also owned and operated Jack Curtis Trucking Inc. Jack also served his Country as a Naval Reservist.
Jack was a past member of Sacred Heart Church, past member of the Knights of Columbus, and a life-time member of local AMVETS post 28 - serving on the Honor Guard.
Jack enjoyed bowling and spending time in the outdoors especially fishing and tending to his garden. Above all he loved his family very much and will be sadly missed by his family and all those who knew him.
Jack is survived by his wife Carla of Camanche, IA., one daughter - Valerie (Tony) Garcia of Davenport, IA., three sons- Carl (Stephanie ) Curtis of Clinton, IA., Robert Curtis of Clinton, IA., Keith Curtis of Moline, IL., seven grandchildren, three sisters - Clevetta (Harold) Ward of Clinton, IA., Rose (Jack) James of Clinton, IA., Shari Rasmussen of Ivanhoe, IL., with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding Jack in death were his parents, his step-father Axel Rasmussen, one sister - Carol Magrowski, and one brother - Clyde Andrews.
Memorials made will be directed to the wishes of the family.
