Obituary for John C. Covert

John C. Covert, 85, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton, Iowa on Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 manufacturing drive - just west of Clinton Lawn Cemetery). A visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
John was born June 10, 1929 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Leo and Marie (Petersen) Covert. John attended the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, Iowa. While there he would become a High School All American football player. It was also at the Iowa School for the Deaf that he fell in love with his high school sweet heart Betty Royce. John and Betty were united in marriage on June 17, 1951 in Dubuque, Iowa. Their love story would last 63 years until God called him home.
John worked for Clinton Corn Processing Company in the Feed House and Sanitation Department, retiring after 41 years.
John enjoyed fishing, woodworking and traveling with Betty. Above all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife Betty of Clinton, IA., one daughter - Pam Lindaman of Loves Park, IL.; one son - Mike (Melissa) Covert of Vienna, WV.; three granddaughters - Monica Luna, Britta Biannon and Lidsay Camerlin; three grandsons - Erik Bartels, Conner Bartels and Brett Covert; four great grandchildren with many nieces and nephews .
Preceding John in death were his parents, one grandson, one sister and one brother.
