Joe "Indian Joe" Antrikin, 86, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at Mercy Medical Center - North, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, August 21, 2016. At his request, a private funeral service took place on Wednesday, August 24, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel. Private burial immediately followed at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Joe was born July 11, 1930 in Creek County, Oklahoma the son of Jim and Gladys (Wilson) Antrikin. He was a graduate of Kiefer High School, Kiefer, Oklahoma. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Pope on January 26, 1951 in Kiefer - Mary Jane passed away in March 1999. Joe served his County in the U.S. Army.
Joe began his career on October 20, 1952, as a Union Pipe Fitter - local 25, retiring in 1992. He was very proud to be a Union member. Joe was also a Freemason and a member of the Moose and Eagles Clubs.
He was very proud of his Cherokee Indian Heritage. He loved telling stories and loved to laugh. He was affectionately known by grandchildren and others as "Papa Joe". He enjoyed going to the Casino and loved to ride his red scooter just about everywhere. Above all he loved his family very much especially his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Indian Joe is survived by three daughters - Deb (B.J.) DeWeerdt of Clinton, IA, Millie (Denis "Tank") Zuidema of Clinton, IA and Sue (Bruce) Stremlow of Clinton, IA; with six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister - Christina (Jim) Rawdon of Kiefer, OK; with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Joe in death were his parents, his wife and two brothers.
